There’s no need to go wild getting a parcel out west to Bristol

Bristol has historically been one of the foremost port cities in the UK. And as befits a city with such a strong heritage in international trade, getting a parcel delivered here is straightforward.

The largest city in the south-west of England, Bristol is the centre of employment for more than one million people. Apart from the city itself, they travel from such prominent nearby towns as Bath, Bradford-on-Avon, Weston-super-Mare, Mangotsfield and Almondsbury.

The Mendip hills lie to the south, and the Cotswolds to the north, but due to the fact that there is no other major city within a 60-mile radius, Bristol serves as the main commercial and cultural hub for a large area of the south and south-west of England.

Many older parts of Bristol still show signs of the importance of the shipping industry to the city. But whereas the docks once extended right up the Avon estuary into the city itself, they have since been relocated to a site north-west of Bristol, at Royal Portbury. This is still an important landing point for many goods arriving in the UK, principally motor vehicles – more land here than at any other British port.

Bristol is an affluent city, and its population contributes the third highest amount per head to the UK’s gross domestic product, or total output of goods and services combined.

Railways played an important role in the growth of Bristol. The city’s grand Temple Meads station was the largest outside London served by Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s Great Western Railway, and today it enjoys fast and regular services to London, the West Country and central southern England, as well as to Birmingham and the major cities of the north of England.

Bristol is also close to both the M4 motorway between London and West Wales, and the M5 route from the West Midlands to the West Country, making the city easy to reach from most parts of the UK.  Substantial growth at Bristol International Airport has been driven by passenger demand, but it also has regular parcels and mail flights linking it directly to Newcastle, Edinburgh and Bournemouth.

As an important regional centre, many businesses understandably want to sell their products in the Bristol area. The city is well served by many parcel delivery companies, who transport goods from near and far, and thanks to its excellent transport links, there are plenty of options for anyone or any company needing to send items here, no matter what the size or nature of the consignment.

A wide array of international delivery companies is available to help get a parcel to Bristol safely and efficiently. They can be checked out and compared easily online.
