Has anyone noticed that Bella and Edward of Twilight have a particularly shallow relationship?
Like, Bella really only likes Edward because he’s pretty to look at, and Edward only really likes Bella because her blood smells good. I mean, there’s not a lot of depth here. Not bagging against Twilight or anything, I like it but I’m not a maniacal fan like most other 16 year olds in the entire world, but yeah, their relationship kind of pisses me off sometimes.
It is true that in Twilight it is not very clear what Edward sees in Bella as only her perspective is given to the reader. But when Midnight Sun comes out (if it does now that it’s been leaked) it will be more obvious how he is deeply in love with her, and his struggle to do the right thing(to leave her alone)
As pointed out in Eclipse when they discuss the love story between Catherine and Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights, it is not the qualities in one person that make you love that person. You love them even if they have nothing good, no redeemable quality but their own love for you. This is very difficult to comprehend when you have never been truly in love yourself.
And Edward and Bella are soul mates, and their love goes beyond the little things in life, their connection is such that nothing can break it, even when he leaves her in New Moon.
Besides, if you read the books carefully, you will see there are many things Bella admires in him beyond his good looks. When she talks to Jessica about him she says something like he is even more unbelievable behind the face.
